Recent Appointment to Utah’s Business and Chancery Court

Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox recently appointed Judge Rita Cornish as the first judge in Utah’s new Business and Chancery Court; the appointment now awaits state senate confirmation. Judge Cornish has served on the Second District Court bench since 2021, and she currently serves on the Utah Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Utah Rules of Civil Procedure. Previously, Judge Cornish was a shareholder at Parr Brown Gee & Loveless, P.C., with a practice in complex civil litigation.

Utah’s Business and Chancery Court was created in 2023 when the state legislature passed House Bill 216. The court has jurisdiction over complex commercial litigation actions.
