In 2018, the Florida Bar’s Business Law Section created a Business Courts Task Force to study the potential for a statewide business court. Florida currently has specialized commercial dockets in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, created by each individual Circuit Court’s President Judge.
Recently, the Task Force proposed “a statewide business court in each of the five state district courts of appeal,” requiring ten new judges. One month ago, the Business Law Section unanimously approved the proposal. There are still many steps ahead before this proposal becomes a reality, but the labor to date has been serious and thoroughgoing.
