Michigan Judicial Institute Holds Interactive Panel with Business Court Judges on Mediation

On September 12, 2024, the Michigan Judicial Institute held an interactive panel event on the topic of mediation at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing. The program was attended by Michigan Supreme Court Justice Brian K. Zahra, most of Michigan’s business court judges, and litigators from across the state. The panelists were Judges Terence J. Ackert (Kent County), Joyce A. Draganchuk (Ingham County), and Victoria A. Valentine (Oakland County); mediators Paul Monicatti and I.W. Winsten; and litigators Bruce A. Courtade, Jennifer M. Grieco, and Gerard V. Mantese. Douglas L. Toering was the moderator. Topics of discussion included mediation processes, how judges, mediators, and litigators can work together to make mediations most effective, and the concept of mediation as a “process.”

The latest issue of the Michigan Business Law Journal includes a summary of that program. https://higherlogicdownload.s3.amazonaws.com/MICHBAR/ebd9d274-5344-4c99-8e26-d13f998c7236/UploadedImages/pdfs/journal/Fall2024.pdf#page=15
